The Masters of Mediocrity
Authors note:
“This is a short story I wrote on my healing journey after listening to a podcast which ironically taught me, that teaching is key to true knowledge. I want to do the same with you. I want to share a memorable story that makes you want to learn things not only to understand them but to furthermore, unlock a passion which will turn into a purpose. You will know what your purpose is, once you want to teach it to others.”
In the world of Mediocra everything was bland, white, repetitive and forgettable.
The people (if you could even call them that) were smooth, faceless figures, like blank canvases with arms and legs. They moved the same, spoke the same, knew the same things and sparked the same conversations..
“Nice day today, isn’t it?”..
“It’s meant to rain later on”..
Ring a bell?
Despite being so monotonous and on “autopilot”, the beings in Mediocra thought they knew everything.
They absorbed information constantly, like facts about the universe, formulas & philosophy. But nothing stuck. They listened. They nodded. Then they forgot.
Because no one wrote anything down.
And no one ever taught anyone else.
They educated themselves to get a title for a sense of achievement, but there was no purpose behind these “knowledge achievements”.
One day, a Master descended from the sky.
This being was different. Their form shifted, colourful and full of life, a stark contrast to the dull white world below. This being was human. They were wild, witty, authentic and confident.
The Master sighed, shaking their head.
"This is a waste," they said. "You have the knowledge of a billion lifetimes, and yet, none of you are masters of anything."
The blank figures blinked. “But we know everything.”
The Master laughed in a deep, knowing way, like they were just about to transform their world.
"No, you don’t. You have only heard it. And hearing is the weakest form of learning."
The figures shifted uncomfortably. They had never been challenged before.
"You want to truly know something?" the Master asked. "Then write it down. Make it real."
One of the beings hesitated, then grabbed a stick from a tree behind them and slowly scratched a word into a tree.
And just like that, a spark of colour ran through them.
The Master smiled. "Using a stick as a pen and the tree as the paper. Creative but you can do better. To truly master anything.. you must teach it."
The being turned to the figure next to them and explained what they had just written.
Their form shifted, moulded, became clearer. Their limbs gained definition. Their hands became precise.
The Master stepped back.
"Now do it again."
The beings of Mediocra began to write, to share, to teach.
One became a master of meditation, guiding others to still their minds.
Another became a master artist, painting artworks so vivid they looked alive.
Another became a code-breaker, unlocking the secrets of technology..
One by one, they transformed.
Their once-blank forms now carried minds filled with passion, bodies carved with master, eyes filled with fire & most importantly a life filled with a purpose.
The world of Mediocra was no more.
In its place stood a city of masters.
And from above, the Master smiled.
Because the greatest lesson of all?
True knowledge isn’t in what you hear.
It’s in what you write, what you teach, and what you live for.
Moral:
Hearing is knowing. Writing is understanding. Teaching is mastery.
"A lesson heard will fade away,
A lesson written starts to stay.
But only when it’s taught and spread,
Does knowledge truly forge ahead."
